Happy Lunar New Year! ~ Red Hot Lip Makeup Inspiration

Not having any family in Korea means that I'm spending the best part of my Seollal holiday with my textbooks. But it's still fun to see the celebrations, and this year being the year of the fire chicken I'm inspired to amp up my makeup with some bright red lip shades to get into the spirit. I'll also introduce you to a few products that are popular in Korea at the moment.

Soft Matte Lip - 3CE Liquid Lip Colour #Capricious

The matte lip makeup was a huge trend in 2016 and it seems it will be continuing into the new year. By blending out the edges of your lips with concealer or a brush, a soft and delicate effect can be created. Many girls in Korea wear their lipsticks this was as opposed to a full lip. This product from 3CE was recently released in a range of colours, and is a great product to try if you want to achieve this look.

Full Red Lip - Moonshot Lip Fit Lipstick #TheRed

Moonshot is the cosmetic line released by YG entertainment, so naturally it's YG artists who advertise the products.  The lipstick range is modeled by Black Pink who gained a lot of popularity in 2016. Lisa's colour is a classic tomato red shade and when matched with simple eye makeup is great for creating a bold pin-up lip.

Red Tinted Lip - Labiotte Wine Lip Tint #ShirazRed

The wine themed makeup range from Labiotte received a lot of attention for it's packaging in particular the lip makeup. Tints are not a new thing in Korea and have been popular for a long time, but these products from Labiotte come in pretty shades for winter and the packaging is really cute. They make a really nice gift for someone who likes makeup if you do come and visit Korea.

Velvet Lip - Peripera Ink the Velvet #CelebDeepRose

Similar to the first soft matte lip, velvet lip products are gaining popularity in Korea. They're used to easily achieve a natural gradient look with a velvet-like finish. These Peripera lip products in particular are very well known in Korea because they are inexpensive and have very good lasting power. There's a wide range of colours available too - I also highly recommend them!

2017 Spring/Summer Makeup Trends

We may only be two weeks in to 2017 but I hope you've had a bright and happy start to the year! I had exams the day after New Year's so I had to pass on some of the festivities. But I got good results so I suppose it's was worth it. Anyway, the month of January has us layering up and furiously applying lip balm every morning, I for one find I have less motivation in the winter. Something to look forward to however is the upcoming Spring/Summer season, for which fashion and beauty houses are already churning out new collections. I love this season, so to psyche myself up for it I'm bringing you a taste of what you can expect to see more and more of as 2017 progresses.

These days I'm trying to focus more on the beauty and makeup side while writing my blog, so today I'll just be introducing these trends. But maybe I will do a post about fashion too if this one goes well.

1. Lip Gloss
Anyone can tell you 2016 was dominated by matte lips, and although you don't have to put your Kylie kits away, try picking up a lipgloss and trying something new this year. Shiatzy Chen, Maison Margiela and Dior are among some of the brands that sent high shine gleaming lips down the runway. I think it's a fresh concept and an alternative to matte finishes that gives so much more dimension to a look.

2. Pink
If given a selection of colours I usually find myself grabbing the pink option. Looking at my blog too I think it's pretty obvious I'm partial to a pink hue. So you can imagine how excited I am to see Spring collections and work this colour into my makeup looks. In particular there were a lot of pink eyeshadows popping up from brands such as Tadashi Shoji and Anna Sui at NYFW. I'm excited to pink up some new rosy shades and try it out myself!

3. Glitter Lips
New Year may have passed but that doesn't mean you have to hide your glitter makeup until next year. Fendi and DKNY in particular surprised and delighted with full on glitter lips as the point makeup for the Spring/Summer collections. Although not an everyday look, it's fun to see extreme makeup looks on the runway, it's certainly eye catching.

4. Dewy Skin
If you like the moist, dewy skin look that many Korean base products these days set out to achieve, you can rejoice for cushion makeup will be your best friend this season. Along with the fall of matte lips, matte finish foundations are also being put on the shelf this spring. Whip out your highlighters and illuminating primers to achieve a soft, glowing skin look as seen on models at Isabel Marant, Prada and Lanvin.

5. Heavy Blush
Another eye catching trend was the extreme blush that Kenzo was turning heads with. There were other more subtle approaches in collections for Chanel and Fetty Puma but whatever the case prepare yourself for some bright blushes, as well as matching lip colours in some cases.

What do you guys think about these new trends? Will you be trying any of them? If you have any comments, suggestions or questions please leave them below! ^^ Thank you~

COSRX Natural BHA Skin Returning A-Sol: Review

Good morning!

It seems winter has finally hit Seoul this week, thankfully it's not to harsh at the moment, though I got caught in the snow on Friday morning. The unfortunate thing is my skin is struggling to adjust to the changes in temperature, so I'm trying to amp up my skincare routine.

As I'm sure many people with an interest in Korean Skincare will tell you, if you're having skin troubles a good brand to reach for is COSRX. They're particularly famous for the pimple pads, but I was curious to see what other products the brand has to offer. So during a minor shopping spree in A Land I picked up the Natural BHA Skin Returning A-Sol to help get rid of some blemishes. This product is applied like a toner after cleansing skin and helps to clear pores like a chemical exfoliator. It's designed to be gentle and suitable for sensitive skin.

Here is some detailed information about the product:
'This formula contains 60% Black Bee Propolis to soothe, repair and hydrate skin while inhibiting bacterial growth - perfect for breakouts and acne-prone skin. Natural AHAs and BHAs also aid in controlling excess sebum, clearing impurities and dead skin cells, and helping your skin cells renew so your skin becomes clearer and brighter while maintaining natural moisture retention.'

Because I too was unsure, I looked into the benefits of AHA (Alpa Hydroxy Acid) and BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid). AHAs are natural derived from fruits, sugars and milks while BHAs are naturally derived from tree barks. Both are often used in chemical exfoliators. They work on the top layer of skin to remove dead or damaged cells and help the growth of healthier skin underneath. They are also used to treat acne as the chemicals unplug clogged pores and stop the overproduction of sebum.

My experience with the product has been pretty good so far, it's been about two weeks of using it and I can see a difference in my skin. Most noticeably I have hardly seen any new pimples appear, which is the thing I wanted to control the most. Although not drastically, I do also think it's helping to reduce the redness of my already existing trouble areas. So I hope with continued use of the product I can clear up my skin. It's easy to use and absorbs really quickly so it doesn't get sticky. The solution's consistency is very watery and thin, and a small pump will cover your entire face, meaning the product will last a long time!

The downside comes from the scent, since it does smell quite chemical-ly. But it doesn't make the product unusable. Also the very sensitive parts of my skin sometimes sting a little when I apply the solution. But I believe the benefits outweigh these negative aspects.

You can buy this product in A-Land for around 15,000won (a little over £10.00) or many online Korean cosmetic retailers now stock this products - though the price range varies.

Klairs Mochi BB Cushion Pact: Review

Welcome back, today I'm writing a quick post to give you my opinion about a new Klairs product that has been gaining attention thanks to it's cute packaging. The Mochi BB cushion pact has a similar formula to the already popular Klairs BB cream but this cushion claims to have a formula with higher coverage and a slightly different finish. I actually won this product at a meet and greet with some famous Youtubers, rather than buy it myself, but my opinions would be the same either way!

First of all, the claims of this product are as follows:

♥ Natural, light to medium coverage
 Hydration
 Colour Correction
 Brightening
 Silky Smooth Finish

Here are some pictures of the product so you can see how cute the packaging is for yourself. The pact is fairly lightweight and has a good twist seal that clicks into place to keep the case clean and stops evaporation. The big downside to this product however is that like with the previous Klairs BB cream, there is only one shade available. So unfortunately, my skin tone is a little too fair to use this product as intended and I think many people will experience the same problem. I hope in the future the brand will come to realise there are many skin types and shades out there and release more colours to compensate!

The actual product however is pretty good, if it fits your skin colour. The finish is very silky and applies smoothly on the skin, with a natural coverage that is relatively buildable. It won't cover harsh scars or acne but if you don't have really troubled skin it does a nice job of evening out complexion.

Bearing in mind the only available shade does not match all skin types, I recommend you test this product out if you get the chance. If nothing else it will look adorable in your purse or makeup collection!
